Sleepy's to sponsor the 2008
Labor Day Invitational Drill Competition

Sleepy's will be sponsoring the 5th Annual Westerner's Alumni Labor Day Invitational Drill held on Monday, September 1st, 2008 at 10:00am. The highly competitive event will bring New York State's volunteer firefighters together for their final competition to close out the 2008 motorized season.

The Westerner's Alumni of the West Hempstead Fire Department will be hosting the event at the Hempstead Fire Training Grounds on Weir Street in Hempstead, Exit 20 North off the Southern State Parkway on Long Island.

The New York State Volunteer Firefighter's Parade and Drill Team Captain's Association that sanctions these events has raised tens of thousands of dollars over the years to support charities such as Making Strides for Breast Cancer, The Fight Against Leukemia, and the 9/11 Families Fund. This year, the Association along with The Westerner's Alumni will be supporting Alex's Angels.

Alex's Angels has been formed to support Alexander Simone, a 7-year old boy who resides in Seaford, NY. He is severely neurologically impaired and suffers from debilitating seizures and cerebral palsy. These factors contribute to low level of cognition and inability to speak. To cambat his seizures, Alex is receiving medical treatment that is not covered by his current health insurance. Success of the treatment would prevent numerous and lengthy hospital stays, thus giving him a greater opportunity to learn and a better quality of life.

Raffle tickets will be sold by the Westerner's Alumni, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Alex's Angels. Sleepy's Gift Certificates and various prizes will be raffled off, including a 32" HD TV as a grand prize thanks to P.C. Richard & Son. Food and refreshments will also be available.

Sleepy's will also have a booth at the event to educate the public on fire safety in your home as well as the Kingsdown Dormo Body Diagnostics System.
